The main New Year's Eve party in Sibiu is an open-air concert on Piața Mare, with the Christmas market still standing around it. The programme for 2026/27 has not been published yet.
Sibiu keeps its New Year's Eve simple: one square, one stage and a market that has not packed up. The last confirmed edition, in 2025, offered a concert in the open air and a countdown, with the Christmas market still open around them. What follows is the 2025 plan, since nothing newer exists.
The main party
The Romanians call the night Revelion, and in Sibiu the Revelion crowd gathers on Piața Mare. In 2025 the concert was held in the open air with the band Cargo and DJ Funky Drop, followed by a light show and the countdown, according to the local guide zilesinopti.ro. It started at 9 pm (2025). One local source also mentions that some market stalls were taken down from 26 December to make room for the stage, so expect the square to look a little different from the daytime market. No programme for 2026/27 has been announced.
Romania rings in the year under a huge fireworks display. For Sibiu in 2025 no source confirms fireworks at midnight. The guides list a concert, a light show and a countdown, and that is what to plan around. Older reports mention fireworks in earlier years, which says nothing about this December.
Hotel parties with a ticket
- Hilton Sibiu: in 2025 the Royal Ballroom hosted "The '20s Glamour Nights", spread over three evenings.
- Ramada: the 2025 party was called "Arabian Nights".
- Versailles Weddings & Events: Alexandra Stan performed in 2025, with a buffet and sparkling wine at midnight.
- Păltiniș Arena ApresSki Bar: in 2025 a Mainstream Party followed a show with torches and fire, for anyone who wants the night in the mountains.
How to plan the night
Start with dinner in the centre, which is pedestrian, and walk to Piața Mare before 9 pm so you are on the square when the concert begins. The market is open in the evening too: Mon–Fri 11:00–22:00, Sat–Sun 10:00–22:00. A hotel in the centre keeps the walk home short, so book it early.
After midnight
The market stays until early January and runs 13 Nov 2026 – 3 Jan 2027. Climb the Council Tower (Turnul Sfatului) for the view over Piața Mare, cross the Bridge of Lies (Podul Minciunilor) in Piața Mică, or join a walking tour of the Old Town. Sighișoara and Brașov work as day trips if you want to leave the city.

The verdict is Piața Mare, and the reason is simple: it is in the centre, you walk there, and the market is already up. Arrive before 9 pm and look for the 2026/27 line-up in December.
Check the same room on both sites: price and cancellation terms can differ.
Romania, in brief
What now
If this sounds like your trip, start here.

Sibiu
→A city that shared the title of European Capital of Culture with Luxembourg in 2007, and whose main viewpoint since 2026 is the cathedral tower, because the town's own Council Tower is closed for restoration.

Sibiu in 2 days
→Day one is a walk through three squares and across the Bridge of Lies; day two heads out of the centre, into the Dumbrava Forest for the ASTRA Museum.

Day trips from Sibiu
→The Transfăgărășan wants an organised tour and a full day; Biertan and Sighișoara go by car, Păltiniș and Cisnădioara by local Tursib bus.

Where to stay in Sibiu
→In Sibiu the area isn't chosen by a transport line — the city is too small for that to matter; it's chosen by how many steps lead to the room and how close it sits to the three main squares.

What Sibiu costs
→Romania is outside the eurozone, but every price on this page is already converted to euro — a hostel bed is €9.12–14.40, a set lunch €6.30–7.40.

Sibiu, past the six-sight list
→The covered passage between the Upper and Lower Town, two defence towers named after the guilds that manned…

What to eat in Sibiu
→Tripe soup opens the table, mici are small bites off the grill, and papanași with soured cream and sour-cherry jam close it.

The best time to visit Sibiu
→A continental climate with no sea to soften it — summer can top 30°C, winter is cold, and May, June and September–October strike the best balance of weather, rain and price.

Getting around Sibiu
→Sibiu has its own airport with a bus line straight into the centre, a train onward to Brașov, and a bus to Cluj.

Mistakes everyone makes in Sibiu
→Payment is in lei, the Council Tower is shut for restoration until the end of 2027, and the Brukenthal Museum closes two days a week — mistakes that cost time or money here.
