Five destinations from Sibiu split by mode of transport, not distance: the Transfăgărășan goes by organised tour, Biertan and Sighișoara by car, and Păltiniș and Cisnădioara on regular Tursib bus lines. Only the Transfăgărășan and Sighișoara want a full day; the other three fit into half a day, so they pair with a morning or afternoon in the city.
The Transfăgărășan
A mountain road over the Făgăraș range, switchbacks climbing to Bâlea Lake at about 2,000 metres — an organised car tour takes 1 h 15 to the lake, a full day. The price per person is €135 and drops with a larger group. The Bâlea Cascade–Piscu Negru stretch is open until the end of October, then closes for winter — the road does not exist in the same form outside that window.
Biertan
A fortified church in the middle of a Saxon village, seat of the Lutheran bishop of Transylvania from 1572 to 1867, when the seat moved to Sibiu itself; the church was built between 1486 and 1524, and the village has been on the UNESCO list since 1993. The drive takes 1 h 15–1 h 30, entry €3.80, half a day.

Sighișoara
A medieval citadel on the UNESCO list since 1999, the traditional birthplace of Vlad the Impaler — the house that carries his name is now a restaurant, with no museum ticket attached. The drive takes 1 h 30; a combined ticket for the Clock Tower and two museums is €13.30, a full day.

Păltiniș
Romania's oldest and highest mountain resort, founded in 1894 by the Transylvanian Carpathian Society, at about 1,440 metres in the Cindrel Mountains; philosopher Constantin Noica spent his last years here and founded an informal "Păltiniș School". Tursib intercity line 22, Sibiu station ↔ Păltiniș, a return ticket €3.99, the trip takes 59 min, half a day.
Cisnădioara
A Romanesque basilica on a hill above the village, first documented in 1223 in a donation to the Cistercian abbey at Cârța, fortified after the Ottoman raid of 1493. Tursib suburban line 582, a return ticket €1.33, the trip takes 12 min, half a day.
How long each takes
Car for Biertan and Sighișoara, tour for the Transfăgărășan, Tursib line 22 for Păltiniș and line 582 for Cisnădioara; travel time one way.

What to know in advance
- The train to Sighișoara is not confirmed for this plan — a car remains the safer assumption for that trip.
- Cisnădioara has no confirmed entry price here — check it on the spot.
