Mistakes everyone makes in Sibiu
Payment is in lei, the Council Tower is shut for restoration until the end of 2027, and the Brukenthal Museum closes two days a week — mistakes that cost time or money here.

- Leu (RON), Romania outside the eurozone

- Potters' and Carpenters' Towers

Mistakes in Sibiu mostly come down to the wrong day of the week or misjudging how long something takes — here are eight that are easy to sidestep once you know about them.
Expecting euro everywhere
Romania's currency is the leu (RON), outside the eurozone. Prices on this page also show in euro for comparison, though that's not what gets paid on the spot; small spends, like a kiosk or a bus ticket, need cash or a card in lei.

The Council Tower treated as a climb
The Council Tower (Turnul Sfatului) on Grand Square is shut for restoration until the end of 2027 — the viewpoint most older guides still point to isn't climbable. The stand-in is the Evangelical Cathedral of St Mary's tower (€1.90), open every day.

The Brukenthal Museum on the wrong day
The Brukenthal Museum is closed Monday, Tuesday, two days a week in total. Arrive on either and you see only the outside of the palace on Grand Square.

The Potters' and Carpenters' Towers on a Monday
The Potters' and Carpenters' Towers in the Lower Town don't open Monday, and the hours also shift by season — longer in summer (1 April–31 October) than in winter.

The ASTRA museum as a quick stop
The ASTRA museum is an open-air complex covering 96 hectares with over ten kilometres of paths — a visit wants half a day, too much for a quick hour-or-two stop on the way to somewhere else. The paid pavilions don't open Monday, Tuesday, though the forest complex itself stays open every day.

Transfăgărășan out of season
The stretch of the Transfăgărășan up to Bâlea Lake runs until the end of October, then closes for winter. Planning that trip late in autumn or in winter leaves no road to the lake.

Sighișoara by train without checking
A direct train to Sighișoara isn't confirmed — the trip goes by car, 1 h 30. Counting on a train without checking the timetable the night before costs a morning.

A mici as a whole meal
One mici is 50 to 80 grams of grilled meat, a single bite. Ordering one per person and expecting it to be dinner is the commonest grill mistake in Sibiu, as everywhere else in Transylvania.

Is the Brukenthal Museum open every day?
No. It's closed Monday, Tuesday; other days it opens 10–18, last entry 17:15.
