Sibiu in 2 days
Day one is a walk through three squares and across the Bridge of Lies; day two heads out of the centre, into the Dumbrava Forest for the ASTRA Museum.
- How long
- 2 days
- Getting around
- All on foot in the centre
- Rhythm
- Squares and museums in the morning

This plan keeps the centre for day one and the out-of-town sight for day two, not the other way round: the Grand and Small Squares, two museums and the Bridge of Lies fit on foot into a single day, while the ASTRA Museum alone wants half a day in the Dumbrava Forest, away from the city's crowds. Arriving via Bucharest adds an hour or two on the road, so day one starts in the afternoon.
Anyone flying into Bucharest for the wider choice of flights still needs a train or coach of several hours to reach Sibiu — a direct flight to Sibiu Airport (SBZ) saves that stretch of the day when one exists.

Three squares, two museums, one bridge
The Grand Square (Piața Mare), the morning's starting point — breakfast cafés line its edge, with the museum and the tower a few steps further on.
Brukenthal Museum, the morning's first stop — arriving right at opening skips the queue at the till. €9.50, closed Monday, Tuesday.
Evangelical Cathedral Tower, a short climb that lands before the midday crowd on the square. €1.90.
Lunch in the centre, €6.30–7.40 for a daily menu, or sarmale for €4.75.
The Small Square (Piața Mică), a few steps on from lunch — the bridge starts right here.
The Bridge of Lies, a few minutes to cross, free — the last stop before the evening's break.
A short stop at the Stairs Passage, a covered 14th-century passage between the Upper and Lower Town — more on it on the hidden-gems page.
Dinner, grilled mici for €1.33–1.50 or tripe soup for €3.78–4.75.
The ASTRA Museum does not fit this day. The centre is dense and walked; the museum in the Dumbrava Forest wants its own day and the other side of town.

The ASTRA Museum, out of town
The trip out to the ASTRA Museum in the Dumbrava Forest, away from the city's crowds.
ASTRA Museum, the whole late-morning block goes to the complex's paths through the forest. €9.50, a visit takes half a day.
Back in the centre; with time left, the Potters' and Carpenters' Towers sit right by the walls — €0.38, 20–30 min.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Why is the Council Tower closed?
For restoration, until the end of 2027. In the meantime, the Evangelical Cathedral Tower right next to it gives the view over the city.
Does the ASTRA Museum fit into the same day as the centre?
Not comfortably. The museum alone wants half a day in the Dumbrava Forest, away from the centre, so it gets its own day.
What if the trip starts in Bucharest?
A train or coach to Sibiu takes several hours, so day one starts in the afternoon rather than the morning.
