In brief

New Year's Eve in Timișoara means an open-air party in Victory Square, with a concert and fireworks near midnight. Nothing is announced for 2026/27 yet, so what follows describes last winter.

Most guides to NYE in Timișoara could be about any big Romanian city, and this one cannot. In 2025/26 several large cities dropped their midnight fireworks, Cluj among them, while Timișoara kept the tradition going. Plan the night around where you stand and around the cold.

Where Timișoara celebrates

Victory Square

The party sits on Piața Victoriei, in front of the Opera and the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the city administration organises it. In 2025/26 the stage opened with Phaser and DJ Sean Norvis warming up the crowd, then Ruslana performed with dancers and no band. Lupii lui Calancea led the countdown and played again after the fireworks. Nothing is announced for 2026/27 yet. The names above show the format.

Midnight, fireworks and the cold

Revelion, as Romanians call the night, came with a hard frost in 2025/26, and thousands of people stood in the square anyway. The fireworks were launched from the roundabout on Bulevardul Brătianu rather than from beside the cathedral, as in earlier years. Part of the display burst low above the crowd, there was a moment of panic and nobody was hurt, according to g4media. Gendarmes fenced off part of the square, and the crowd included many visitors from abroad.

Plan B

A table instead of the square

In 2025/26 many people came to the square from nearby homes, pubs and clubs instead of standing in the frost all evening. That is a sensible template: eat in the centre, walk to the square for the countdown and the fireworks, and go back indoors afterwards, with a table booked in advance. Opening hours and prices for individual places on this night were not found.

1 January

No programme for 1 January was found, so there is nothing to build a morning around. A sightseeing tour of the city is the simplest plan for the days around it, and the pages below cover the rest.

Where to sleep

Victory Square is in the centre, so a bed within walking distance saves you the cold trip home after midnight. Our page on where to sleep sorts the districts.
