This guide to the Timisoara Christmas market covers the three squares and the county fair beside them. It sets out what the 2026 calendar says and gives an order for one evening.
Târgul de Crăciun din Timișoara is two fairs on four squares, run by two organisers, and the ice rink sits on a different square from the main stage. Visitors tend to find Piața Victoriei and walk past the second fair. Most of what follows describes the 2025 season, because the city has not yet published a programme for this year.
Two markets, three squares
In 2025 the city fair filled Piața Victoriei, which the agency report also calls Piața Operei, then Piața Libertății and Piața Sfântul Gheorghe. The county fair ran separately on Piața Unirii and at the Muzeul Satului Bănățean. The squares stand next to each other in the pedestrian centre, which is why the evening works on foot. Organisers claimed more than 1.7 million visitors for the 2025 holiday market, and the figure is theirs, not an independent count.
- Piața Victoriei: the main stage, the lights installation and the Opera behind it.
- Piața Libertății: the ice rink, the food zone and a new fir-tree carousel with gondolas.
- Piața Sfântul Gheorghe: photo points in a fairy-tale set.
- Piața Unirii with the Muzeul Satului Bănățean: the county fair, with polar bears and penguins on display in 2025.

2026 dates and what is still unknown
According to a calendar published in October 2026, the advent market should run 29 Nov 2026 – 7 Jan 2027, as the 19th edition. The calendar is the only source, not the organiser, and the programme and the hours have not been published. Last season it ran 30 Nov 2025 – 7 Jan 2026. Singer Ștefan Bănică Jr. opened the stage on Victoriei, and Alexandra Ungureanu, Moonlight Breakfast, Narcisa Suciu, Marius Ciprian Pop and Zdob și Zdub performed after him.
Read every hour, act and stand in this guide as 2025 until the organiser publishes the new programme.
What to eat and drink
The 2025 food list reads like a Banat menu. There was mulled wine with slices of lemon and orange, baked apples with cinnamon, cozonac and halva, then roasted and smoked cârnați bănățeni, grilled meats, greaves, stuffed zucchini and polenta with telemea. Later reports add lángos, kürtőskalács, mici, bratwurst and plăcintă cu brânză, and the food zone stood on Piața Libertății. Many stalls took cash only, so bring some, and book a restaurant ahead if you want a table after the walk.

A route for one evening
Start on Piața Victoriei for the lights, the stage and the Ferris wheel, then move to Piața Libertății for the rink, the food zone and the fir carousel. Piața Sfântul Gheorghe comes next for the photo points. Keep Piața Unirii for last, when you want a restaurant or something extra. In 2025 the county fair closed on 21 Dec 2025 while the city fair went on, so anyone arriving after that date saw one fair, not two. This order is a suggestion that follows the layout of the squares.
Ice rink, Ferris wheel and programme
The programme in 2025 was built around the rink on Piața Libertății and the stage on Victoriei. A Harry Potter ice show ran there on 7 December 2025 at 18:00. The Ferris wheel stood 23 m high, with a Santa train and carousels around it.
- The rink on Piața Libertății in 2025, hours: 12:00–22:00.
- A separate rink in the Iulius Gardens mall, outside the fair, with adult tickets until 9 February 2026: €5.70.
- The 2025 opening on 30 November at 18:00, when the lights and the tree were switched on at Piața Victoriei.
Where to sleep and how to get around
Sleep in the centre, because the squares are in the pedestrian zone and you will walk between them. The city has its own airport, so flying in is simple.

If you only have one square, make it Piața Victoriei, since the stage, the lights and the wheel are there. Arrive after dark and keep Piața Libertății for the second hour.
Check the same room on both sites: price and cancellation terms can differ.
Romania, in brief
What now
If this sounds like your trip, start here.

Timișoara
→The city that lit its streets with electric lamps on 12 November 1884, ahead of any other in Europe, and where the protest that toppled Nicolae Ceaușescu within a week began on 16 December 1989.

Timișoara in 2 days
→Day one is the three squares inside the old fortress line, day two is the Art Nouveau of Fabric and Iosefin: two different cities fifteen minutes' walk apart.

Day trips from Timișoara
→Buziaș and the Recaș wineries fit into half a day; Arad and Corvin Castle want a full day.

Where to stay in Timișoara
→In Timișoara the choice is between the walkable Cetate, Art Nouveau Iosefin by the station, and the further-out Fabric, and the decision comes down to how much you walk.

What Timișoara costs
→A frugal day in Timișoara is €19.67–28 per person: a hostel, street food, a set lunch and two rides on public transport, converted to euro for comparison.

Timișoara beyond the three squares: a skansen, a park, Art Nouveau
→Four places that do not make the six main sights: a skansen with some thirty houses, the park that gave the city its nickname, an Art Nouveau district and a museum in a Baroque palace.

What to eat in Timișoara
→Mici and Banat-style stuffed cabbage hold the main menu, tripe soup opens lunch, and langoș with cheese is the street food you eat on the move.

The best time to visit Timișoara
→Timișoara has a continental climate with no sea to soften it: summer can push past 29°C, winter runs cold, and May and September strike the best balance of weather and crowds.

Getting around Timișoara
→Timișoara's airport has a direct express bus to the centre, the city runs on STPT's tram, trolleybus and bus network, and the train continues on to Bucharest and Cluj.

Mistakes everyone makes in Timișoara

Innsbruck Christmas markets: seven of them, and which comes first
