Toruń's Christmas market is a single fair on the Old Town Square, with more than 100 exhibitors, gingerbread baking workshops and a full children's programme.
Toruń is known for gingerbread, but the Christmas market is bigger than its most famous biscuit. The Toruński Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy fills one square with stalls, a parade, a theatre show and workshops, and the dates for 2026 have not been published, so everything below follows the 2025 edition.
Rynek Staromiejski
The Christmas market stands on Rynek Staromiejski, the Old Town Square, and in 2025 it brought together more than 100 exhibitors. The parade set off from Rynek Nowomiejski, the New Town Square, and walked to the old one, so the fair opened with a procession. Huts and a Venetian carousel stood on the same square in 2025, so the fair fits into one walk across the Old Town, with a second lap around the huts if the evening is long. If you can see only one thing in Toruń in Advent, see the square at dusk.
Gingerbread from Toruń
Pierniki toruńskie, the Toruń gingerbread, were sold at the fair, and workshops during the market let visitors bake their own. A gingerbread museum, Muzeum Toruńskiego Piernika, also exists in the city, for anyone who wants to see why one biscuit became the symbol of a town. The gingerbread is the souvenir, and the market is the reason to go. Buy a few pieces at the stalls, keep them for the train home, and leave the baking workshop for a day with children.
When and until when
The 2025 market ran — 2025: 21 Nov – 21 Dec 2025. The official opening was a separate event on a Saturday, with the parade and the lighting of the tree — 2025: 22 Nov, parade 4.30 pm, tree lighting 5 pm. Stall hours differed by day — 2025: Mon–Thu noon–9 pm, Fri noon–10 pm, Sat 10 am–10 pm, Sun 10 am–9 pm.
With only one day, choose the opening Saturday in November for the lighting of the tree and everything around it on the square. On weekdays the stalls opened at noon, so you can arrive after lunch and find room for a walk.
Programme
The programme was broad. Children had the most reasons to come, but adults were not left idle, because theatre, music and workshops took turns among the stalls.
- The theatre show Legenda o Piernikarzu, the Legend of the Gingerbread Baker, was on the programme.
- Children had a Venetian carousel, the Snow Fun Park and a meeting with Santa.
- Teatr Baj Pomorski and the band KAKADU performed during the fair.
- Historical workshops and concerts filled the last weekend.
- Santa in the Sky, a dinner about 50 m up lasting about 40 minutes, was offered in 2025 for children aged 4 to 13 with an adult and needed a reservation. Price: €111.81 (PLN 490, 2025).
Toruń has one Christmas market, so the choice is when to go: Saturday for the parade, a weekday for quiet.

Poland, in brief
What now
If this sounds like your trip, start here.

Toruń
→A town the war never touched, so it is maintained rather than rebuilt

Toruń in 1 day
→A loop through the Gothic Old Town, from the square to the castle ruins, then over the bridge to the island the town is seen from, whole.

Day trips from Toruń
→Two spa towns with graduation towers and the first capital of Poland. A direct Polregio train runs to all three, no changes.

Where to stay in Toruń
→Inside the walls you're by every sight, but on cobbles; in Bydgoskie Przedmieście you sleep among villas and walk a little further.

What Toruń costs
→The Old Town, the walls and the island view cost nothing, so the money goes on the house-museums, the tower, the castle ruins and the fortress.

Toruń after the gingerbread: a fortress, the stars and a boulevard named after Philadelphia
→A nineteenth-century fortress the guides skip, a planetarium opened two days before Copernicus's birthday, and a promenade named after a sister city across the ocean.

What to eat in Toruń
→The town is known for gingerbread, but what you actually eat is żurek, oven-baked dumplings and a pancake from the chain that started here.

The best time to visit Toruń
→Toruń sits deep inland, with no sea or mountains to soften the temperatures.

Getting around Toruń
→The station sits across the Vistula, so you reach the Old Town by bus or on foot over the bridge; the centre itself takes about twenty minutes to cross.

→A country where half of what looks old isn't, and that is precisely the point

→Salzburg has five Christmas markets with five sets of dates, and the 2026 dates and hours are already published.
