In brief

Wrocław has two Christmas markets, and only one of them has official 2026 dates so far. The Rynek is the one to plan around, while Kraina Koni suits anyone with a free Thursday-to-Sunday window.

With one evening to spend, spend it on the Rynek and skip the rest without guilt. The Wrocławski Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy fills all four sides of the square, Plac Solny and the ends of two streets, so it behaves like one market that happens to be several streets long. Kraina Koni, out at the racecourse, makes a pleasant second act and not much more.

The Rynek and Kraina Koni: two markets, two moods

The main Christmas market, run by the Pianoforte agency, covers all four sides of the Rynek, Plac Solny, Świdnicka as far as the Opera and Oławska as far as Szewska, and in 2025 the city counted about 260 stalls. Each side of the square had its own themed corner, with Fairy Tale Land on the west and Elf Land on Plac Solny, so the walk feels like crossing small districts. Kraina Koni at Partynice has horse programmes and a viewing wheel, and it keeps to a Thursday-to-Sunday rhythm.

  • The Rynek and Plac Solny: the main market, free to enter.
  • Świdnicka and Oławska: the stalls continue along both streets, and in 2025 a gate on Oławska, 5.5 m high and 8 m wide, carried hundreds of lights.
  • Kraina Koni at Partynice, Zwycięska 2: free to enter and open from Thursday to Sunday.

When they run, and what is still unpublished

For the advent market on the Rynek the city has announced nothing for 2026 yet, so last season is the best guide, and the wroclaw.pl site will carry the new dates once they exist. Last season's dates: 2025: 21 Nov 2025 – 7 Jan 2026. Kraina Koni is confirmed and runs 28 Nov – 20 Dec 2026, with its St Nicholas programme on 6 Dec 2026. Opening days: Thursday to Sunday; on the first day, 28 Nov, from 10:00. Last season's hours on the Rynek: 2025: daily 10:00–21:00; closed 24 and 25 Dec and 1 Jan; 26 Dec from 13:00; 31 Dec stalls until 17:00, food and drink until 02:00.

What to eat and drink

Mulled wine, grzaniec, comes in a boot-shaped mug whose colour changes every year, and the mug carries a deposit that you get back at any stall, in cash. The sausage comes off the grill, the pierogi come by the portion, and bigos, oscypek with cranberries, flammkuchen, churros and Belgian fries fill the rest of the lanes of this Christmas fair. Waffles, gingerbread and nuts cover the sweet side. Prices from the 2025 season, mulled wine: €4.56, boot deposit: €4.56, grilled sausage: €7.30, pierogi: €6.85–7.99. Bars around the square pour cheaper mulled wine than the stalls, which settles where to have the second cup.

A one-day order that avoids the squeeze

From the Wrocław Główny station the Rynek is about a quarter of an hour on foot, perhaps a little longer. Seven tram lines stopped at the Rynek in 2025, and on weekends a special line 0 ran every 20 minutes between noon and 21:00. If you arrive by car, the Park & Ride sites had 36 car parks with 2,808 spaces in 2025, free from Friday afternoon until early Monday during the market. A weekday in the first half of December is the quiet option, weekends and the days before Christmas are the densest, and the lights look best after 17:00. So take the Rynek in the morning or afternoon, then Plac Solny and Świdnicka, and leave the lights for the evening. Add Kraina Koni only if your visit falls on a Thursday to Sunday inside its run.

The tree, the lights and the programme

The tree beside the Ratusz, the Old Town Hall, stood about 24 m tall in 2025 and carried 120,000 lights. A parade with Santa and concerts on the stage filled the programme that season, and the lights remain the real draw. The tree: 2025: 5 Dec 2025 at 17:00. City illuminations: 2025/26: until 31 Jan 2026.

Three tickets for the dark afternoons

Daylight is short in December, and the stalls go better with an indoor hour on either side of them. The cyclorama suits anyone who wants one large thing and a seat, the water museum is the pick when children are along, and the hall is for people who care more about a building than a picture. All three sit away from the market streets, which makes them a sensible use of the cold hours before the lights come on.

  • Panorama Racławicka: a vast circular painting of the 1794 Battle of Racławice, shown in a rotunda in Słowackiego Park, with tickets at the desk or online. Winter hours: Tuesday–Friday 9:30–16:00, Saturday 9:30–17:00, Sunday 9:30–16:00, closed on Mondays
  • Hydropolis: a museum about water, about two hours for a full visit, with entry limited to 60 people per half hour and tickets sold online. Hours: Monday–Friday 9:00–18:00, weekends and holidays 9:00–19:00, last entry an hour before closing
  • Centennial Hall: an exhibition about the hall itself, with a dearer ticket that also takes you inside the hall, and virtual-reality flights above it. Hours: Tue–Sun 10–18 (Apr–Oct), 10–17 (Nov–Mar)

Where to sleep

Entry is free, and the market stands inside the Old Town, so a bed on the Rynek or close to it means a short walk to the stalls and back. Anyone planning Advent in Wrocław should start from the Old Town and widen the search only if the rooms there run out.
