Bled's Christmas market is the Winter Fairytale on the lakeside promenade, with regional food, live music at weekends and a legend about a sunken bell.
Bled is not only a summer place. From early December to early January the promenade along the lake turns into the Winter Fairytale, Zimska pravljica, and the best hour to be there is the evening, when the lights are on and the water is dark. Exact dates for 2026/27 have not been published, so what follows goes by the 2025/26 season.
Zimska pravljica on the promenade
The Bled Christmas market stands on the lake promenade, the Cesta svobode, and the lights are switched on at the start of the festival. Stalls sell regional food from Gorenjska and hot drinks, craftspeople show their work, and music plays at weekends. The Winter Fairytale is a small market, so one slow evening walk along the shore covers all of it.
Entry was free in the 2025/26 edition, so you can drop in for half an hour without planning. If you want to see Bled without the summer crowds, come in the evening, when the lights reflect in the water.
The legend of the sunken bell
The programme has a story at its centre, the legend of the sunken bell, which Bled tells over the Christmas days. Date: 25 Dec. It is the reason to spend Christmas by the lake, in the dark and without hurry, so it is the point to build the day around.
The verdict is simple: if you can come only once, choose the evening of the legend, and let the walk along the lake end with the story. Without it Bled in December is pretty and quiet; with it, it has a story.
Food from Gorenjska
The stalls offer the food of Gorenjska, the region around Bled, together with warm drinks, and no prices are published. A hot drink in hand is the right way to do the promenade slowly. Bled is the place for a lakeside snack rather than a big dinner, so plan the meal in a restaurant nearby and treat the stalls as the course in between. The Christmas and New Year concert in the church of St Martin belonged to the 2025/26 season, and it is a calm way to end the evening.
Dates
The 2025/26 edition ran as follows: 2025/26: 28 Nov 2025 – 4 Jan 2026. The official source for 2026/27 gives only the span from early December to early January, with no exact day. Do not book by a date from an unofficial guide; wait for the town's announcement.
