The best time to visit Bled
Summer for swimming and every transport line, early October for a quieter town, winter for the castle, the Winter Fairytale and a lake that can freeze.
- Best months
- June–September
- The lake
- Up to 25°C in summer
- Vintgar
- April to October

Choose the month by what it switches on. Vintgar, swimming and Bled Bus need summer, while the castle and the walk around the lake run all year, so the question is which extras you want. Pick those first. The lake itself reaches 25°C in summer and drops to 4°C in winter, and in a cold spell it can freeze over.
Through the year
Swimming, Vintgar and every transport line
Summer is the season when everything is open at once, from the lido to the last bus line. The public lido, Grajsko kopališče, operates from June to the middle of September, with 260 m of shore, two slides and four pools, and the pletna boats run from 10 am to 7 pm between May and September. Bled Bus covers three lines from 1 June to 30 September 2026, and in July and August every line runs daily. The lake warms to 25°C at best, which is pleasant rather than tropical, and the swimming is as much the point as the sights. The Straža hill has a summer toboggan run of 520 m and a chairlift to the top.
Vintgar keeps its longest hours from 6 July to 30 August, 8 am to 6 pm, and the busiest stretch still falls between 10 am and 1 pm. Go first thing or after lunch. June brings the international regatta, and the first Sunday of July is the Rikli hike, named for Arnold Rikli, the Swiss pioneer of health tourism in Bled. The verdict for a single month is early September, because the lido stays open until mid-month and Bled Bus until the 30th.

Spring and autumn
April opens the gorge season, and from then until the end of May Vintgar takes visitors from 9 am to 4 pm, so a spring trip means one early walk along the boardwalk and then the rest of the day on the lake. Boats cross from 10 am to 6 pm in April and October, and the church on the island opens its doors from 8:30 am to 6 pm. The traditional regatta falls on 1 May, which makes a good excuse to be at the water that day. In March the island has already woken up and closes at 5 pm, an hour earlier than in April. Spring and autumn suit the viewpoints: Mala Osojnica is a 45 min climb and Ojstrica a 20 min climb.
September narrows the hours. Vintgar closes at 4 pm until 20 September and at 3 pm after that, and the season ends in October. The tourist train runs only at weekends in May and October, in good weather. Early October gives a quieter town. Reach the gorge before it shuts for the year, and plan the boat around the earlier closing times.

The castle, the Winter Fairytale and ice
From November to March the gorge is closed. The pletna runs from 10 am to 3 pm, which leaves a short window for the island and a quiet one for the photographs. The castle stays open every day from 8 am to 6 pm, which makes it the natural winter plan. Days are short. On the island, the hours in January, February, November and December are 8:30 am to 4 pm from Monday to Thursday and to 5 pm from Friday to Sunday.
The lake falls to 4°C and can freeze, while the thermal spring on the east shore keeps its water from falling below 20°C. The Winter Fairytale takes over the Spa Park and the promenade from 27 November 2026 to 10 January 2027. If a cold lake sounds bleak, the castle on a clear day settles the matter.
