Getting around Bled

To Bled by train and bus, around the lake on foot, to Vintgar by shuttle from the bus station, and by car with paid parking.

The train does not reach the lake, and that one fact shapes every plan for Bled. Public transport takes two steps, a train and then a short bus, a car takes one, and either way the last stretch to the water is on foot. The town is small enough that nothing else needs wheels, apart from the gorge and the viewpoints, which have shuttles of their own.

To Bled

Train, bus and plane

Trains from Ljubljana to Lesce-Bled run every hour and take 50 min–1 h, but the station sits 4 km from the lake. A bus waits outside, covers the rest in 9 min and costs €1.50, paid to the driver. The current timetable holds from 5 October to 12 December 2026. Two warnings apply this autumn. Slovenian Railways raised single and return fares on 1 July 2026 by 16 percent on average, and the line from Lesce on towards Jesenice is closed until 12 November 2026 while the Jesenice station is rebuilt.

Arriva also runs direct buses from Ljubljana through Kranj and Radovljica, and these stop at Bled bus station, three minutes on foot from the lake. Bled Union stop is five minutes away. The nearest airport is Ljubljana, where a direct Arriva bus to Bled exists but runs infrequently.

FlixBus serves Bled from Salzburg, Munich, Budapest, Prague, Milan and Zagreb. From Salzburg and Munich the train works too, running through Villach to Lesce-Bled. Bled Jezero station on the Villach–Jesenice–Nova Gorica line lies 1.5 km from the centre.

The motorway, the vignette and parking

Leave the motorway at Lesce and follow the road in. The motorway needs an e-vinjeta, and the weekly one costs €16 for a car, which is the sensible size for a long weekend. Buy it online on the official DARS site before you drive onto the motorway.

Parking by the lake falls in a blue zone at €4.50 per hour, with a limit of two or four hours between 8 am and 8 pm and frequent checks. For the castle there are two car parks. The upper one is 50 m from the gate and costs €3 per started hour, while the lower one is 550 m away, a 12-minute walk, at €2.50 per hour. If you plan the island and a long lunch, the train and bus combination is calmer than a parked car.

Around the lake

On foot, by train and Bled Bus

The path around the lake is 6 km, and it is the cheapest way to see everything. A tourist train also circles the water every 40 minutes, daily from June to September between 9 am and 9 pm, and at weekends only in May and October between 10 am and 5 pm in good weather. Bled Bus runs three lines, Pokljuka, Countryside and Lake Bled, from 1 June to 30 September 2026, and the 2027 timetable appears in spring. Hold the Julian Alps Card and the bus is free, and so it is for children under six.

To Vintgar and beyond

A shuttle runs to Vintgar Gorge from Bled bus station every 15 minutes, and the ride takes about 20. The gorge is open only from April to October, its hours change by period, and the busiest stretch of the day falls between 10 am and 1 pm, so the early or the late shuttle serves you better. Buy the digital ticket in advance, because the Visitor Centre at the gorge does not sell the pass. The helmet is compulsory, and the one-way path leaves no room for changing your mind halfway.

Pokljuka Gorge lies inside Triglav National Park and is reached by the Pokljuka line of Bled Bus in summer or by car through Krnica and Zatrnik. Bohinj has become harder. The seasonal Arriva bus between Bled and Bohinj stopped on 1 September 2026, and local transport in Bohinj asks for a 24-hour ticket that is not sold on the bus. The day trips page shows how to plan around that.
