Mistakes everyone makes in Bled
The mistakes are two prices for one island, Vintgar at 11 am, parking by the lake, climbing to the castle in the wrong shoes and a bus to Bohinj that no longer runs.
- Boat and island
- €20 return + €12 entry
- Vintgar
- Busiest 10 am–1 pm
- Parking by the lake
- €4.50 per hour, 2 or 4 hours at most

Every common mistake in Bled sits on a number that is easy to read wrongly: two prices for one island, the busiest hour at Vintgar, a paid parking zone, a slope, a bus line that no longer exists. None of them ruins a trip, and all of them are cheaper to avoid than to fix on the spot, so here they come one by one, each with what to do instead.
The boat and the island are paid separately
Expecting one ticket for the island and finding two is the classic Bled surprise. The pletna, the hand-rowed wooden boat, costs €20 for the return trip, and the church, bell tower and exhibition on the island take €12 on top, a split that the Bled tourist board shows on two different pages. The cheaper way across is the Bled Boat Line, an electric boat that sails from the pier below Café Park at €16 by timetable. You can also hire a rowing boat, and bringing your own onto the lake is free according to the tourist board's FAQ.
Vintgar at 11
Vintgar fills up between 10 and 1. The walkway is one-way and a helmet is compulsory, so a crowd cannot overtake and a queue cannot be dodged. Tickets are digital and the Visitor Centre does not sell them, which leaves the VINTGAR LIP car park as the only place to buy one if you have not booked online. Go with the first slot or after 1 pm, and remember that the gorge opens only from April to October.
Parking by the lake
The blue zone along the lake costs €4.50 per hour and allows 2 or 4 hours between 8 and 20. At some car parks the first hour is free. Wardens patrol often and fines follow. The better spot is the car park under the castle at €2.50 per hour, a 550 m walk of about 12 minutes from the gate. Better still is leaving the car behind and taking the train and the bus at €1.50.
The climb to the castle in the wrong shoes
The path from the upper car park to the ticket office is steep, with a gradient of up to 34°, and it turns slippery in winter. Castle staff advise comfortable footwear and a bit of time, and sandals fail that test on the first bend. Two gentler ways up start from Slovenski trg and from the Rikli trail. Plan at least two hours inside, because the museum, the printing works and the chapel are worth the time once the climb is behind you.
The bus to Bohinj
Older guides may still send visitors to the Arriva bus between Bled and Bohinj, and it no longer runs, because the seasonal line was cut on 1 September 2026. Buses inside Bohinj need a 24-hour ticket bought in advance, not on board. Go by car or look at arriva.si for what remains, and for the Savica waterfall budget €4.
The card you cannot buy
The Julian Alps Card is not sold at any counter. It is free only to guests of partner accommodation, so the question belongs at the moment of booking, before the room is paid for. With the card, Bled Bus costs nothing and the castle drops by 10 percent. Without it, a Bled Bus day ticket costs €5 in the summer season, which makes the card worth asking about even for a short stay.
