Day trips from Bled
Bohinj for the lake and the waterfall, Radovljica for half a day, Ljubljana by train for a full day, and the public bus to Bohinj has been cut since September 2026.
- Bohinj
- A full day
- Ljubljana
- Train 50 min–1 h one way
- Radovljica
- Half a day

Each day trip from Bled hangs on a single question. For Bohinj it is how to get there now that the summer bus has stopped, for Radovljica it is what the town actually offers, and for Ljubljana it is whether a return on the same day is worth the effort. Answer those three and the rest of the plan falls into place around a base that sits in the middle of everything.
The lake and Savica
Lake Bohinj covers 3.18 km² and is the largest permanent lake in Slovenia, sitting at 526 m inside Triglav National Park. The village of Ribčev Laz on the shore is the natural starting point for a walk along the water. It is bigger than Bled, with more mountain at the water's edge. Give it a full day.
The waterfall is the usual second stop. Since 1 August 2026 Savica has had a visitor management system, and entry costs €4 from age 16, with younger visitors free. The first Sunday of every month is free for everyone, and the Bohinj Card already includes it. Parking at the site is paid by card only, so bring a card.
The catch is transport. The seasonal Arriva bus between Bled and Bohinj stopped running on 1 September 2026, and local buses inside Bohinj need a Bohinj 24h ticket, which is not sold on board. A car is the simple answer. Without one, look at arriva.si before setting out, and treat the trip as one that needs planning the evening before.
Half a day
Radovljica is the sensible half day when the lake is crowded or the sky is grey. Local trains between Ljubljana and Jesenice stop here, so it also works as a stop on the way in or out of Bled, with an afternoon in the old centre.
The Beekeeping Museum is the reason most people come. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 to 18 and closed on Mondays, 1 January, Easter, 1 November and 25 December. Honey is a real local product, since the Bled Local Selection scheme lists it among the region's goods, so a jar from a shop in town is a fair souvenir.
Ljubljana by train
Ljubljana is a full day, and the train makes it easy. Trains leave for Lesce-Bled every hour, and the autumn timetable for 5 October to 12 December 2026 runs the same way. The train from Ljubljana takes 50 min–1 h one way, and the bus from Lesce-Bled station to the lake adds 9 min.
Slovenian Railways raised single and return fares by 16 percent on average from 1 July 2026, so a price remembered from an earlier year will be too low. Count the legs before you commit: train, bus, then a walk. For most visitors that makes the capital a day trip with an early start, and the last train home is worth looking up before you set out. Ljubljana has its own page on this site, so this is only the way there.
Pokljuka Gorge and Vintgar
Pokljuka Gorge sits inside Triglav National Park and runs for 2 km, reaching 40 m deep at its finest stretch. It has a 22 m waterfall and a natural bridge 24 m long, and the local tourist board calls it the largest fossil gorge in Slovenia. In summer the Pokljuka line of Bled Bus goes there, and otherwise it needs a car. Bled Bus runs from 1 June to 30 September 2026 with a day ticket at €5, free with the Julian Alps Card. The Pokljuka line runs daily in June and September, while the other lines run daily only in July and August. Vintgar belongs to the itinerary, so here it is only a comparison. It is a 4 km ride from Bled with a shuttle, a ticket and a time slot, while Pokljuka asks for wheels or the bus and leaves you to find your own pace. Pick Vintgar for the famous walkway and Pokljuka when you want fewer people.
