Timișoara in 2 days
Day one is the three squares inside the old fortress line, day two is the Art Nouveau of Fabric and Iosefin — two different cities fifteen minutes' walk apart.

- The squares in the morning while empty

This plan follows the side of town, not a list of sights: day one is the centre inside the old fortress line, day two is Fabric and Iosefin, the districts that grew once the fortress gave way to boulevards. Mix them up and the same bridge over the Bega gets crossed twice in one day.
The centre: three squares in half a day
Unirii Square, the city's oldest — the Roman Catholic Dom and the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral stand facing each other. Crossing the square: free; entering the cathedral free.
Five minutes to the Bastion, the only surviving piece of the demolished fortress, its walls now holding shops. Access: free.
A walk across Libertății Square, the middle one of the three, to Victory Square and the Metropolitan Cathedral, whose central dome towers over the whole centre. Entry: free.
Lunch in the centre: a langoș with cheese for €2.85–4.18 or grilled mici for €1.52–1.90/pc.
The Revolution Museum, where a foundation set up in 1990 still researches December 1989. Entry: €3.80; open Mon–Fri 8–17, Sat–Sun 10–18.
Dinner in Cetate, with Banat-style stuffed cabbage or mici for €6.65–12.54.
Fabric does not fit this day. The centre is dense and walked; the Art Nouveau districts want a different pace and the other side of town.

Fabric and Iosefin, Art Nouveau beyond the fortress
Over the bridge on the Bega to Fabric, the Art Nouveau district that grew once the city spread past the fortress. Access: free.
The Banat Village Museum, an open-air skansen with traditional houses from several Banat communities; a visit takes about 2 h. Tickets €3.80, open Tue–Sat 10–18, Sun 12–20.
Lunch in Iosefin, €5.70–7.69 for a set menu.
Roses Park, a city park with hundreds of rose varieties. Entry: free.
If there is time left: the National Museum of Art in the Baroque Palace, once the seat of Banat's administration; €6.27, Wed–Sun 10–18.
This day holds the district, the skansen, the park and the museum, but shortens each one. For an easier pace, split it over two afternoons.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Where does a third day in Timișoara go?
Out of town: to Buziaș, 50 min by bus, or to Arad, 1 h 6 min by bus. Corvin Castle wants a full day, given the 2 h 20 min journey.
Can the centre and Fabric be done in one day?
They can, but Fabric and the skansen get rushed if the centre runs long. Splitting them over two days, as in this plan, keeps both unhurried.
Is central Timișoara easy to reach without a car?
Yes. The airport has a bus line to the centre, and all three squares and both Art Nouveau districts are walkable.
