Where to go: five more questions →

Timișoara's airport (TSR) is linked by the E4 express bus, which reaches the centre in 25–35 min with no change. The city itself runs on STPT — trams, trolleybuses and buses on the same ticket — and for travel further into Romania, the train from Timișoara Nord station runs both to Bucharest and to Cluj.

From the airport to the centre

Timișoara's airport (TSR) has a direct link on the E4 express bus (STPT) to the city centre — 25–35 min, €0.76, the same fare as any other ride on public transport. The bus runs with no change, so a taxi only makes sense with more luggage or late at night when services run less often.

STPT — tram, trolleybus, bus

The city runs on the STPT network: nine tram lines, six trolleybus lines and twelve city bus lines, all on the same ticket — €0.76 for one ride, €2.85 for 24 hours. The tram is the oldest and densest part of the network, covering most routes through the centre and out to Iosefin.

On foot through Cetate

The walled centre around Victory Square, Unirii Square and both cathedrals is a pedestrian area — between the main sights on a first day there is no need for the tram, just a square to cross. Public transport becomes useful once you head further out, towards Iosefin, Fabric or the airport.

The train onward into Romania

From Timișoara Nord station, trains run in two main directions: to Bucharest, via Craiova, Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Lugoj, and to Cluj, via Oradea or Deva. Overnight sleeper trains run the longer routes alongside the day trains.
