Where to go: five more questions →

Henri Coandă Airport (OTP) is the main gateway into the city. Bus 100 (the former line 783) or a train to Gara de Nord station both run direct, with no change. Inside the city, the metro (Metrorex) and public transport (STB — bus, tram, trolleybus) are two separate networks, each with its own ticket.

From the airport to the centre

Bus 100, the former line 783 (replaced in December 2023), runs direct to Piața Unirii in the centre — 40–45 min (bus), €0.57, charged at the same fare as any other STB line. Arriving by train, the same route is covered by the connection to Gara de Nord station.

The metro and public transport — two networks

The metro (Metrorex) and public transport (STB — bus, tram, trolleybus) in Bucharest are not the same network and don't share a ticket, unlike cities where one ticket covers everything. €0.57 (STB) for a ride or €1.52 (STB) for a full day covers the STB only; the metro is bought as a separate ticket at the station entrance.

Gara de Nord and trains north

Regular services run from the main railway station, Gara de Nord, north to Brașov as well as to Sinaia, on the way to Peleș Castle. For anyone arriving by train from the airport, this same station is the end of the line.

On foot through Centrul Vechi

The pedestrian zone of Centrul Vechi takes 2–4 h to walk end to end — inside it there's no need for the metro or public transport at all. Transport starts to matter once you head further, towards the Village Museum or Herăstrău park.
