Day trips from Zakopane

Where to go: five more questions →

With half a day, go to Kościeliska Valley, the nearest and shortest of the three. With a full day, Chochołowska Valley is wider and quieter. Bukowina Tatrzańska is the only trip that is not hiking — a spa town for a day when your legs need a rest, not another climb.

Kościeliska Valley

Worth it, if you only have half a day

The valley is the closest of the three and the easiest to visit without planning a full day around it. A PKS bus runs to Kiry, about 20 min, the ticket is €4.11 return. Park entry is separate, €2.51, the same ticket that covers Morskie Oko and Giewont the same day if you get to them.

Chochołowska Valley

Worth it, but needs a full day

It is wider and quieter than Kościeliska, despite a similar distance. The bus runs to Siwa Polana, about 30 min, the ticket is €5.02 return. Park entry is the same €2.51 as the rest of the Tatra National Park.

Bukowina Tatrzańska

Worth it for a break from the mountain

Bukowina is not in the national park but a village east of Zakopane, known for its thermal baths. The A15 line runs there in about 22 min, the ticket is €3.19 return; entry to the baths themselves is paid separately, on site. This is a trip for a day when your legs need a rest from climbing, not another climb.
