The most pleasant months for Kragujevac are May–June and September: warm enough for Šumarice and the lake, without the summer heat. One date changes the plan more than the weather — 21 October, the day of the Šumarice commemoration.

21 October changes the plan

21 October is the national day of remembrance for the victims of the 1941 executions, introduced in 2012. Arrive on that exact day and you find a commemoration under way at Šumarice and more people around than on any other day of the year — the hour-by-hour plan doesn't apply then, because the park is part of the programme, not a tour.

Rain changes the trip to Gruža

May and June carry the most rainy days of the year — that doesn't spoil the town, but it changes the trip to Lake Gruža and Borač: the road round the lake and the open-air fort are a different outing in the rain, and the forecast that morning matters more than the calendar.
