The best time to visit Cluj-Napoca
Cluj-Napoca has a continental climate, with a cold winter and a warm summer; May, June, September and October strike the best balance of weather, price and crowds, while July and August bring heat and two festivals that push up accommodation prices.

Two things pick the month for Cluj-Napoca: how hot or cold the city runs, and whether the trip lands on Electric Castle or Untold, when rooms get pricier and the centre fills up. May, June, September and October bring comfortable temperatures without the festival crowd. Degrees for every month, from the coldest January to the hottest July, are in the table below.

Summer brings festivals
Electric Castle runs in mid-July, at Bánffy Castle near Bonțida, and Untold in August at Cluj Arena — both push up room prices and foot traffic in the centre, even for visitors not going to either festival. Travel then and a room is worth booking earlier than in other months.

Arriving through Bucharest
Bucharest, the usual first stop for flights from abroad, can run several degrees warmer than Cluj-Napoca in summer — a difference worth planning around when a trip covers both cities in the same week.

The rain that changes day trips
June and July carry the most rainy days of the year, about 90 mm each — that does not spoil the city, but it changes day trips: the Turda Gorge and Rimetea are outdoor walks, and bad weather turns them into a short drive with no reason to get out of the car.
