Four destinations fit a day trip from Brașov, each its own way: Bran and Râșnov run the same direction by bus and fit into half a day; Peleș in Sinaia wants a train and a full day; Poiana Brașov is a mountain district of the city itself, twenty-five minutes by bus. Râșnov currently offers only the courtyard and the lift — the fortress itself is closed for renovation.
Bran
The castle was begun in 1377 by the Saxon guild of Brașov, with permission from the Hungarian king Louis I, as a fortress and customs post on the pass into Wallachia; construction finished in 1388. Its link to Vlad Țepeș is thin — he passed through the gorge a few times, but there is no evidence he ever lived in the castle, and the story of a two-month imprisonment there was invented in the 20th century (historians say he was actually held at Visegrád Castle in Hungary). The Dracula link was made by American tourists in the 1970s and 1980s, based on the castle's looks. The standard-tour ticket €11.40 holds until 27 September, after which the price drops for the autumn season; transport bus from Livada Poștei, about 45 min, journey 45 min.

Râșnov
The fortress has been closed for renovation for more than two years, with partial reopening planned for 2028; the interior is not open. The courtyard and a lift to the viewpoint are open, looking over the village and the Carpathians — that is what the €5.70 return ticket covers today. Transport RATBV metropolitan bus, about 48 min, journey 48 min.
Peleș and Sinaia
Peleș is the summer residence King Carol I built between 1873 and 1883, used by the Romanian royal family until 1947; the visit covers the ground floor and the first floor. The train to Sinaia takes 1 h, entry €19.00. The same train continues on to Bucharest, the capital.

Poiana Brașov
A mountain district 25 min by bus from the centre; in summer the Postăvarul Express gondola carries walkers up to the ridge, in winter it carries skiers to the same slopes. Return ticket €13.30, transport RATBV city bus line 20, 25 min.
How long each takes
Bus for Bran, Râșnov and Poiana Brașov, train for Sinaia; travel time one way.

What to know in advance
- The Bran ticket price drops after 27 September for the autumn season — travelling around that date, check the exact price on site.
- Râșnov today means the courtyard and the lift, not the fortress. Anyone wanting the interior will not find it on this trip right now.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Can Bran and Râșnov be done in one day?
Yes — they run the same direction by bus, and each fits into half a day.
Why is entry to Râșnov cheaper than expected?
Because the fortress itself is closed. The price today covers only the courtyard and the lift to the viewpoint while the renovation is under way.
Does the same train serve Peleș and Bucharest?
Yes, the CFR route to Sinaia continues on to Bucharest, so the day trip can be extended into a trip to the capital.
