Where to stay in Brașov
In Brașov the area is chosen by how far it is on foot from Council Square: the Old Town has everything close, Șchei is quieter and cheaper, and the district by the train station trades a bus ride for a lower price.

Brașov has no area chosen for a beach or a river — it is chosen by how long the walk to Council Square takes. The Old Town keeps every sight within reach, Șchei holds onto the evening quiet with a shorter walk into the centre than it looks on the map, and the district around the train station trades a bus ride for a lower price.
The Old Town — around Council Square
Everything a first day in Brașov covers sits inside the walls of the former medieval town: Council Square with Casa Sfatului at its centre, the Black Church a hundred metres further on, Rope Street at the far end of the walk. Nothing here needs a ride — every sight on the main list is within twenty minutes on foot. That convenience carries the highest price in the city, for both a hostel bed and a hotel room.

Șchei — quieter, one step outside the walls
South of the Old Town, past Catherine's Gate. Șchei was a settlement outside the town walls before the citadel was even built, and it still holds that character: narrow lanes, houses with courtyards, fewer cafés aimed at tourists than at the neighbourhood itself. The walk to Council Square takes about ten minutes, shorter than the distance on a map suggests, because it runs straight through Șchei Gate. A bed here costs less than the Old Town for the same room standard.

Near the train station — cheaper, with a bus ride
The district around the train station (Bartolomeu) holds the lowest prices in the city, a mix of communist-era apartment blocks and newer business hotels. Council Square is one ride away on an RATBV city bus, the same ticket as any other line in town. It makes sense for a late train arrival or an early morning departure, when being close to the station matters more than being close to the square.

What to check before booking
- Walking distance to Council Square, not to the edge of the Old Town on a map. The walls are an irregular shape, so an address 'in the Old Town' can be five minutes walk from the square or fifteen.
- Parking in the Old Town is scarce and narrow. The lanes date from medieval widths; anyone arriving by car checks whether the place has its own parking before booking.
- Șchei climbs uphill in winter. Its lanes are steep, and snow and ice linger there longer than on the flatter Old Town streets.

A dorm bed is €15–18, and a three-star hotel room is €20–33 per person per night — the price moves more with the area than with the season.
