Brașov in 2 days

Day one is the centre around Council Square and the Black Church, day two is the walls, Șchei and the cable car up Tâmpa — an order that follows the city's climb up the hill, not a checklist of sights.

Where to go: five more questions →

This plan follows the city's climb, not a list of sights: day one stays low, in the Old Town around Council Square, day two goes up, along the walls towards Șchei and to the top of Tâmpa by cable car. Mix them up and the same slope gets climbed twice in one day.

Day 1

The Old Town: from Council Square to Rope Street

09:00

Council Square opens the day, while it's still empty and before the streets fill up. Walking the square 1–2 h, entry free.

10:00

Black Church, a few steps on — second stop while the entry queue is still shortest. Entry €5.70.

11:15

Rope Street, a short detour on the way through — 111 centimetres at its tightest. Walking it takes 5–10 min.

11:45

Catherine's Gate, the last stop before lunch, on the way back towards the square. A visit takes 10–15 min.

12:30

Lunch downtown: tripe soup for €6.27 or sarmale for €10.26.

19:00

Dinner downtown, €6.84–8.55 for a main course.

Day 2

The walls, Șchei and Tâmpa

10:00

Weavers' Bastion opens day two, before the walls fill up with tour groups. Entry €1.33.

11:15

A walk along the surviving walls to Șchei Gate, and on into the district of the same name — the next step past the bastion, not a separate trip.

12:30

A short stop at the First Romanian School, on the way through the same district.

14:00

Lunch in Șchei or back towards the centre.

15:30

The Tâmpa cable car, the day's last stop, while the afternoon light still holds. Return ticket €8.55.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

Where does a third day in Brașov go?

Out of town: to Bran, 45 min by bus, or to Râșnov, 48 min by bus. Both run the same direction and can be combined into one day.

Can the walls, Șchei and Tâmpa be done in one day?

Yes, but each part gets less time. For more time in Șchei, split them over two days.

Does the Tâmpa cable car run every day?

It does not run on Monday, and occasionally stops in high wind or storms.
