Szentendre takes half a day from Budapest: the HÉV H5 suburban train runs about 40 min from Batthyány tér, and the town itself is walked on foot.

The train leaves from Batthyány tér, and a single ticket is about €2.50–3 one way. A car is not needed. The streets can be walked freely, with no ticket and no opening hours, and the most expensive single ticket is Skanzen. The town is open all year, Skanzen is not: year-round; Skanzen 31 Mar–25 Oct.

The walk starts at Fő tér, the main square, which is free. At number 6 stands the Serbian Church Museum, next to the Annunciation church: the museum keeps the religious heritage of the Orthodox communities in Hungary, and Serbs settled in the Szentendre area in a large wave in 1690, during the Great Turkish War. The museum and the church together are €3.86, and the hours are 1 May–30 Sep: 10–18; 1 Oct–30 Apr: 10–16.

The town has been an artists' colony since 1929, so the museums come next. The Margit Kovács Ceramics Museum is open daily 10–18, and the Czóbel Museum Thursday–Sunday 10–18. The day ticket €8.83 covers all the Ferenczy Museum Center exhibitions the same day, so you do not buy per museum.

The walk ends on the Danube promenade (Duna-korzó), free, and from there it is back to the HÉV station.

Skanzen is a second trip, not part of this walk. The open-air museum, founded in 1967, is open 31 Mar–25 Oct: Tuesday–Sunday 9–17; 27 Oct–1 Nov: 9–16. The ticket is €11.04, and €13.80 on festival days. Anyone coming for it plans a whole day and does not put the town centre into the same one.
