What to eat in Sousse
Brik before dinner, lablabi as a breakfast everyone here eats, ojja when it turns cold, and fish couscous as a weekly lunch on this coast, not a special occasion.
- Brik
- €1.50–3
- Lablabi
- €3–4.50
- Ojja
- €4.50–7.50, eggs in a spicy tomato sauce

Sousse eats like the rest of the Sahel coast, with one difference: the fish sits close enough that fish couscous shows up here as a regular lunch. Outside the hotel, a main course at a regular place runs €7.40–11.90, no drink included.
Before dinner, while it's hot
A thin pastry sheet folded around an egg, tuna or potato, then flash-fried until it sets. It's sold at the medina gate and on the quay, €1.50–3 a piece, and eaten by hand while the yolk still runs.

A soup for any meal
Chickpeas, day-old bread, cumin and a dressing of oil and harissa — €3–4.50 for a full bowl. In Sousse it's eaten both in the morning before the medina and late at night after the beach, rarely as a proper lunch.
When it turns cold
Eggs stewed in a thick tomato sauce with harissa, with merguez sausage as an option, served in the pan it was cooked in, €4.50–7.50. Eaten with bread, no cutlery.

A weekly lunch on the coast
The Sahel treats fish couscous as a regular dish, not a feast: fish and vegetables steamed over the couscous grain, €5.50–9 at a restaurant. Ordered for lunch, rarely for dinner.

A main course with no drink
In the streets around the medina and on the quay a main course at a regular place runs €7.40–11.90, no drink included. The price depends on whether it's fish or meat, and whether the table faces the sea.
