Where to stay in Sousse
Port El Kantaoui keeps a pool and a traffic-free marina, while the quay by Boujaffar smells of fish off the ice at night and carries a price without the hotel markup.

The street outside your hotel in Sousse depends on which half of town you pick. In Port El Kantaoui it's a traffic-free marina, yachts and restaurants in a row; by Boujaffar it's a promenade with fishing boats, five minutes from the medina.
Marina and pool
The streets inside Kantaoui are closed to traffic, the façades keep the same white-and-blue tone, and restaurants face the moored yachts. A pool sits behind every hotel, so the day never has to move towards the beach. What's missing is a town: shops are souvenir stalls, and dinner outside the hotel means the same menu at ten addresses in a row.

The town, by Boujaffar: the quay and the medina close by
Hotels by Boujaffar have the beach on their doorstep and the medina ten minutes' walk behind them. In the evening the quay leads to places where fish is picked off the ice before it goes on the grill, at a price without the hotel markup. Traffic on the quay doesn't stop even past midnight.

What a night costs
The town's hostel is the only one with a real dorm, €13 per bed; both three-star hotels found run from €18–35 per person for a double room, and the gap depends on whether the address is by the marina or closer to the centre.

Who each suits
Kantaoui suits families with small children and anyone with no plans to leave the hotel grounds. The town by Boujaffar suits anyone who'd rather walk to the quay in the evening than wait for a taxi.
