Mistakes everyone makes in Bratislava
Five mistakes that cost time or money in Bratislava, and what to do instead.
- Monday
- Devín is closed, Monday
- The ticket
- Electronic is cheaper than paper
- The UFO
- Open until 23:00, daily 10–23

Most mistakes in Bratislava come down to the wrong day of the week or a habit from another trip. Each has an easy fix.
1. Planning the castle and Michael's Gate for a Tuesday
Bratislava Castle's exhibitions and the Museum of Weapons in Michael's Gate close on the same day, Tuesday (exhibitions) and Tuesday. Instead, leave that day for the courtyards, the cathedral and the UFO deck, which are open without exception.

2. Saving Devín for a Monday
The fortress is closed Monday, so anyone taking the bus out that day arrives at locked gates. Instead, make Monday the day for the Blue Church, Slavín and a longer walk along the Danube promenade, and leave Devín for any other day of the week.

3. Buying a paper ticket out of habit
A paper ticket for city transport costs more than the electronic one for the same ride, €1.60–1.80 (60 min). A small gap, but it adds up fast. Instead, buy the electronic ticket ahead of time — it covers the same ride for less.
4. Renting a car for the Old Town
The streets around Michael's Gate are narrow and pedestrian, and a car saves nothing there, it only needs somewhere to park. Instead, everything in the centre is a walk away, and a city bus is enough for Devín on day two.

5. Seeing the UFO deck only by day
By day the view is fine, but the castle and Old Town light up after dark, and the deck stays open daily 10–23. Worth waiting for true darkness. Instead of going up and straight back down, save a slot for late afternoon.
