- Timișoara (Romania)
- About 71 km away in a straight line
- The Vatin crossing
- 14 km from Vršac in a straight line

Two destinations fit into a day from Vršac, each in a different direction: Deliblato Sands to the south-west, with sand dunes in the middle of Vojvodina, and Timișoara to the east, across the Vatin crossing. Neither is practical by public transport, so both want a car.
Deliblato Sands
The largest continental sand area in Europe, about 37 km south-west of Vršac in a straight line — dunes piled up by the košava wind, with the Banat peony in bloom through April and May. Parts of it burned in the summer of 2026, so some zones remain under access restrictions; it has its own full page, with every detail.

Timișoara, across the border
Romania's Timișoara is about 71 km east of Vršac in a straight line, via the Vatin border crossing, just 14 km from Vršac itself. The city has its own page on this site — the centre is walked in half a day, with three squares running one into the next.

What to know in advance
- A passport for Timișoara. Romania is not in Schengen, but the border is crossed with a valid travel document — check the entry rule before setting off.
- Deliblato Sands after the fire. Part of the area remains under restriction — check with Vojvodinašume what is currently open.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Can Deliblato Sands and Timișoara be done in one day?
Not sensibly. They lie in opposite directions from Vršac, and each wants a full day by car on its own.
Do you need a visa for Timișoara?
Not for most nationalities, but Romania is not in Schengen — a passport or ID card is still checked at the Vatin crossing.
Is all of Deliblato Sands open after the 2026 fire?
No. Part of the area remains under access restrictions — check the current state with Vojvodinašume before setting off.
