Where to stay in Malbork
Malbork is a day's visit, and the one real reason to stay anyway is the castle lit up after dark, across the water.

Malbork doesn't need a night. The whole visit fits into one day, with the train back to Gdańsk, and only those who want to see the castle lit up after dark, across the Nogat, stay on.
No night here
The train from Gdańsk takes about 30 min each way, so it's simpler to sleep there and come for the day than to move your bags for one night here.

For the castle at night
The castle lights up in the evening, and the view from the quay across the Nogat costs nothing. There's also a night tour through the castle itself, 1 h 30 for €16, but only May–Aug, Friday and Saturday evenings (selected dates); booking is recommended.

What a night costs
There's no hostel. A three-star hotel runs €25–40 per person for a double room. The town is small and everything is on foot, so a hotel inside or near the old town doesn't change much compared with one closer to the station.

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Is a night here worth it for the castle?
It's worth it if the night lines up with the night tour. So the tour's date comes first, the hotel second. The view of the lit-up castle from the quay needs no booking at all.
