Where to go: five more questions →

Day one is Hora, day two the south coast, day three Delos, and Little Venice waits for sunset, when it is at its best. The order follows the crowds: the walk before the cruise ships fill Matoyianni, the beach in the middle of the day, the boat to Delos while the site is open.

Day one: Hora

The walk in the morning, Little Venice in the evening

09:00

The harbour and Matoyianni. The pedestrian street is busiest 10:00–14:00, when cruise ships unload, so you walk it early or leave it for late afternoon.

10:00

Panagia Paraportiani, a cluster of five white churches merged over the centuries, at the entrance to the Kastro quarter. You see it from outside: free.

11:00

Kastro, then uphill to the Kato Mili windmills: free, open whenever you arrive. The whole loop through town takes 2–3 h.

13:00

A lunch break while Matoyianni is at its peak.

18:30

Little Venice. Cocktail hour starts 7.30–9 pm. A front-row table in summer carries a minimum spend, €60–100 per person, so you arrive an hour early or sit in the second row.

Day two: the south coast

Psarou in the morning, Paradise or Elia in the afternoon

10:00

Bus from Fabrika to Psarou; a taxi from town takes 5–10 min. The public strip of sand is between the clubs and free.

13:00

On foot to Platis Gialos, 15–20 min, and from there the water taxi, an all-day pass at €20. Timetable: 10.00 from Ornos, last return 5.45 pm from Elia.

14:00

Paradise or Super Paradise for company and music, Elia for a calmer rest of the day.

Late

Back by bus: in summer the Paradise line runs every 30 minutes, until after midnight.

Day three: Delos

The first boat, back in Hora in the afternoon

Morning

Boat from the Old Port, 30–45 min each way. The boat is €25 return, entry €20 including the museum.

10:00

The site is visited on your own, no booking; the whole trip takes half a day.

15:00

Back to Hora. The rest of the day is free for Matoyianni, quieter once the cruise ships leave.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

How many days does Mykonos need?

Three days is enough for Hora, a beach day and Delos. A fourth day goes to another beach or to Tinos or Naxos.

Do you need to book Delos?

Not for a self-guided visit; guided tours are arranged in advance.

When is the best time for sunset in Little Venice?

Cocktail hour starts as the sun begins to drop, and front-row tables fill an hour ahead in summer.
