Beaches in Mykonos

The same water, five different days: what sets the beaches apart is the transport, the club and the sunbed.

Where to go: five more questions →

On Mykonos you pick a beach by the transport and the club, because the water is the same everywhere. Psarou is an expensive bay with a public strip of sand, Paradise and Super Paradise are beach clubs, Elia is wide and calmer, and Agios Sostis has no sunbeds and no bus.

Psarou

Public sand between the clubs

Psarou is a small sheltered bay on the south coast with the priciest sunbeds on the island: at Nammos and Cavo Psarou they start from €250, and smaller operators offer sunbeds from about €50 for two. Between the clubs is a free public strip of sand, and the water is the same. A bus runs to the bay from Fabrika, a taxi from town takes 5–10 min, and from Platis Gialos it is 15–20 min on foot.

Platis Gialos

Organised and practical

The beach is fully organised and suits a first day and families. The water taxis to almost all the south-coast beaches leave from here, and the bus runs from Fabrika.

Paradise and Super Paradise: the beach as a club

Paradise and Super Paradise are beach clubs with DJ sets, with the music getting louder after midday. Buses from Fabrika serve both, and the Paradise line runs every 30 minutes, until after midnight in summer. The Super Paradise club also runs its own shuttle from Fabrika. Sunbeds at Super Paradise start from €25, in the back rows.

Elia

Wide and calmer

Elia is a wide, organised beach for a longer, more relaxed stay. The bus goes from the Old Port and the water taxi ends its line here; sunbeds in the organised section start from €20 a pair.

Agios Sostis

Northern, with nothing

Agios Sostis is an unorganised beach with no sunbeds and no public bus; you get there by car or a taxi arranged in advance. It lies on the north, which takes the meltemi, so in August, when it blows hardest, it is a gamble.

The wind decides the side

The meltemi is a strong northerly wind, strongest in August. The south coast is sheltered, so Psarou, Platis Gialos, Paradise and Elia are the better choice when it blows; nothing is fully protected. When the wind drops, the north is lovelier and less under the clubs' control.
