Where to go: five more questions →

Most mistakes in Prague come from outdated information or a wrong assumption about what one ticket covers. Each has a simple fix, if you know it in advance.

1. Looking for bus 119 to the airport

Bus 119 was retired on 6 March 2024 and no longer appears on the airport boards. Anyone still looking for it, from an old guide or memory, wastes time scanning boards that don't show that number. Instead, look for trolleybus 59 — the same route, to Veleslavín station, then metro A.

2. Planning Josefov for a Saturday

The Jewish Quarter is closed every Saturday, with no seasonal exception, following the Jewish Sabbath. Anyone who heads there that day arrives at locked synagogues. Instead, leave Saturday for Vyšehrad or the Castle, which open every day, and move Josefov to any other day of the week.

3. Assuming the tower ticket is included in crossing the bridge

Crossing Charles Bridge is free, at any hour, but climbing the Old Town or Malá Strana bridge tower is a separate ticket. Anyone who reaches the tower thinking the bridge crossing already covered it is caught out at the counter. Decide before arriving at the tower whether the climb is worth it, and buy that ticket on the spot.

4. Expecting to walk into Strahov Library's halls

The standard Strahov Library ticket is a view of the Theological and Philosophical Halls from the doorway, over a railing, not a walk through them. Anyone arriving expecting to step inside is disappointed on the spot. Instead, if entering the halls matters, book a separate tour in advance; the doorway view needs nothing.

5. Assuming all of Vyšehrad is ticketed, or that everything is free

The fortress, the park and the Slavín cemetery at Vyšehrad are free, and some people skip them thinking they need a ticket. Others make the opposite mistake: the casemates under the ramparts have their own price, separate from the rest. Instead of guessing, walk freely into every public part, and decide on the casemates once you're there.
