The main route to the Castle passes right by all four of these places, and most people walk on because they don't recognise them. A terraced garden above Malá Strana, a library whose finest halls are seen only from the doorway, a lane without a souvenir shop in sight and an island right under the bridge — all sit on the way, none needs a detour.
Quiet right under the bridge
Kampa is the island the river and the Čertovka channel form right below Charles Bridge, on the Malá Strana side. You can't see it exists from the bridge itself, since the entrance is down a side staircase, but the moment you step down, the bridge's noise stays behind. The park is free, with no ticket and no single sight to put it on a checklist — which is exactly why it's rarely crowded.

Terraces above the rooftops
Few people find this Baroque terraced garden above Malá Strana without knowing its name in advance, even though it's a few minutes off the main route to the Castle. From the top terrace you see St Vitus Cathedral's roof from an angle the main route never offers. Entry is €6.15, and it's open March to October with no closing day in season; closed off season (Nov–Feb).

Halls seen from the doorway
The Theological and Philosophical Halls of the monastery library are among the most photographed interiors in Prague, but the standard ticket doesn't open the doors — you look in from the threshold, over a railing. Entering the halls themselves needs a separate tour and a booking; the doorway view needs nothing in advance. The ticket is €7.79–9.02.
A lane without a single souvenir shop
Nový Svět is a narrow lane ten minutes from the Castle, lined with low houses from when small craftsmen lived here, not courtiers. There isn't a single souvenir shop or explanatory sign, just façades and a quiet the main route to the Castle rarely offers. Entry is free.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Which of these four should I pick if I only have time for one?
Vrtba Garden, for the view of the cathedral from its terraces that the main route doesn't offer. Kampa Island is the better pick for anyone who just wants quiet without a ticket.
Can you go inside Strahov Library?
The standard ticket is a view of the halls from the doorway. Going inside needs a separate tour booked in advance.
Is Nový Svět far from the Castle?
No, about ten minutes' walk, and it's entirely free.
