The best time to visit Bardejov

The square, the basilica and the walls have no season. The Šariš Museum and the open-air museum do, and both shrink on the same day the summer hours end.

Where to go: five more questions →

The best months for Bardejov are May–June and September: warm enough for the full loop around the walls, with the Šariš Museum and the Bardejovské Kúpele open-air museum already on their longer, summer-style hours. Outside May–June and September both keep shorter hours, May–Sep: Tue–Sun 9–12:30, 13–17; Oct–Apr: Tue–Sun 9–12, 12:30–15:30 for the museum.

The season that decides the museum and the open-air site

The Šariš Museum and the Icon Collection are open May–Sep: Tue–Sun 9–12:30, 13–17; Oct–Apr: Tue–Sun 9–12, 12:30–15:30, and the open-air museum at Bardejovské Kúpele May–Sep: Tue–Sun 10–12:30, 13–18; Oct–Apr: Tue–Sun 9:30–12:30, 13–15. Both keep the longer afternoon slot right through May–June and September; outside that stretch the same visit still fits, just with an earlier start to beat the shorter hours.

What has a season, and what doesn't

The Šariš Museum and the Icon Collection share the same schedule and closing day, Monday. The open-air museum of folk architecture at Bardejovské Kúpele keeps its own seasonal hours, May–Sep: Tue–Sun 10–12:30, 13–18; Oct–Apr: Tue–Sun 9:30–12:30, 13–15, closed Monday. Radničné námestie, the Basilica of St Giles and the town fortifications run all year, with no seasonal limit.

Outside the main season

Outside May–June and September, what's lost is only the afternoon slice of the museum's and the open-air museum's hours — the morning slot still runs. The square, the basilica and the walls are still seen in the same order as the itinerary, just without the summer crowds on the square.
