The best time to visit Subotica

Subotica isn't chosen by month but by day of the week: Tuesday–Friday, all year, since that's when both the synagogue and the tower tour run.

Where to go: five more questions →

Subotica has a continental climate, but none of its sights close for rain or snow — the main stops are either indoors or a short walk outside. What actually closes them is the day of the week: Monday: The Town Hall, The Synagogue; Sunday: The Raichle Palace. That makes the choice of day matter more than the choice of month.

The day that decides everything

Three of the five main stops each have their own closing day, and no two fall on the same day of the week: Monday: The Town Hall, The Synagogue; Sunday: The Raichle Palace. Tuesday to Friday are the only days when both the synagogue and the tower tour run — Tuesday–Friday, all year.

What's left at the weekend

Saturday isn't fully closed, but it's shortened: the synagogue closes at 2pm (Tue–Fri 10–18, Sat–Sun 10–14), and the Town Hall tower tour takes booked groups only, not individuals. On Sundays both the synagogue and the Raichle Palace are shut — what's left is the Town Hall from outside, the cathedral, and Palić.

MistakesOther schedule mistakes, not just the day of the week:Mistakes everyone makes in Subotica →

Palić doesn't depend on the day

Unlike the city, Palić has no closing day — the lakeside park is outdoor space, open regardless of when the buildings in the centre are working. That's why day two of the plan runs on a different calendar to day one.

Season changes only Palić

The lakeside promenade and cycle path run all year, but the length of daylight changes how much of the loop around the lake gets done before dark — that's the only seasonal difference in this plan. The city itself, with buildings toured from the inside, doesn't depend on the month.
