Four destinations sit within reach of Ulcinj, but not equally: Stari Bar and Valdanos fit into half a day, Lake Skadar and Shkodër in Albania want a full day and, for Shkodër, a border crossing. None of them works as an add-on to the beach — each has its own transport and its own timing.
Stari Bar
A fortified town settled since the early Middle Ages, under Ottoman rule until 1878, when locals cut the aqueduct and the town returned to Montenegro. The aqueduct was rebuilt, but the earthquake of 15 April 1979 destroyed it again, and the settlement was largely abandoned afterwards — today it holds over 240 ruined buildings across about four hectares. The Zejdin Tours bus takes 30 min, €6.70–9.70 (2× Ulcinj–Bar bus, one-way €3.35–4.85) return.

Lake Skadar
The largest lake in the Balkans, shared between Montenegro and Albania, a national park since 1983 and home to over 280 bird species — on the RAMSAR list of wetlands of international importance. An organised transfer runs to Virpazar, then a boat crosses the lake; the park entrance fee is €5 (NP entrance, per person) + boat tour unconfirmed. The whole trip, a full day, does not fit into half a day.

Valdanos
A bay south-west of town, known for an olive grove under state protection — some of the trees are several hundred years old. It takes 10 min (5 km) by car or taxi, half a day enough for the beach and a walk through the grove.

Shkodër (Albania)
Albania's second-largest city, at the meeting point of the Bojana and Drin rivers, on the Albanian shore of Lake Skadar. Rozafa, an Illyrian fortress rebuilt across the centuries, looks over the city and the lake from the hill above. A furgon (minibus) takes about 1 h (incl. border), including the border; the fare is €14 (2× one-way, unconfirmed). The whole trip, a full day, leaves no time to be back before dinner.

How long each takes
Travel time one way; Stari Bar and Shkodër by bus/furgon, Lake Skadar by transfer and boat, Valdanos by car or taxi.
