For Capri the month is chosen by three sets of opening hours and one crowd: May–Jun, Sep–Oct. The Blue Grotto depends on the sea, Villa Jovis is shut in January and February, and the Monte Solaro chairlift runs seasonally.

Summer

An island under the boats

In July and August the island is swamped with day-trippers off the boats. Whoever can choose comes in May, June, September or October.

The Blue Grotto

Hours by season

The cave runs on three schedules: 1 Apr–30 Sep: 8.30–18; 1–15 Oct: 8.30–16; 16 Oct–31 Mar: 9–14. On top of that it depends on the sea, so it closes in strong wind or swell,. In winter opening is not guaranteed. Closures: sea-dependent — no fixed day, closes in strong wind/swell; always closed 25 Dec and 1 Jan. Whoever comes for the grotto allows more than one day or a backup plan.

Winter

What shuts

Villa Jovis is closed in January and February, and the rest of the year it is open 1 Mar–15 Oct: 10–17; 16 Oct–28 Feb: 10–16; closed Jan–Feb. The Certosa runs shorter in the winter months: Jan–Feb, Nov–Dec: 10–16; Mar–Oct: 10–18. The Gardens of Augustus are open Apr–Oct: 9–19.30; Nov–Mar: 9.30–17.30. On the beaches the season depends on the lido; La Fontelina charges its minimum spend only in high season: €200 minimum spend per person (29 May–13 September).

What runs all year

Villa San Michele is open daily, 9 to one hour before sunset, so it is a safe winter stop. The Faraglioni, the Natural Arch and the Punta Carena lighthouse have no opening hours and no closed day.
