Where to go: five more questions →

Three dishes on Capri carry the island's name or come from it: insalata caprese, ravioli capresi and torta caprese. With them goes limoncello, served chilled after the meal. In an ordinary restaurant a main course costs €18–25, without a drink.

Insalata caprese

Mozzarella, tomato and basil, with salt and olive oil; no vinegar goes in. The three ingredients are the colours of the Italian flag. The name settled in the 1930s at the restaurant Luigi ai Faraglioni. Price of a portion: €18, from the menu of Ristorante Piccolino.

Ravioli capresi

Ravioli capresi are the second dish to carry the island's name. In Anacapri, at Giorgio al Cucciolo, a portion is €15.

Torta caprese

Torta caprese is a chocolate cake with almonds and no flour, so it is naturally gluten-free. It comes from Capri; the stories of how it began are legends.

Limoncello

Limoncello is a liqueur made from lemon peel, about thirty per cent alcohol, served chilled after a meal. One story ties it to Capri around 1900. A bottle of Limoncello di Capri is €12–15 (0.7–1 l).
