What to eat in Olomouc
One cheese carries most of the menu: plain on bread, fried, in a potato pancake or inside a schnitzel. The rest is a set lunch, house-brewed beer and a langoš for the street.
- Tvarůžky, plain
- €4.30, with butter and bread
- Tvarůžky, fried
- €3.89
- Potato pancake with tvarůžky
- €9.22

Olomoucké tvarůžky has carried an EU protected geographical indication since 2010, and may only use that name if made in Loštice, near the city. The cheese turns up in the old core in several forms — plain with butter, fried or folded into another dish — alongside a set lunch at €5–7 and house-brewed beer that pairs with it.
A cheese allowed only one name
Since 2010 the name tvarůžky has been protected across the whole European Union, and a cheese labelled that way must be made in Loštice, a small town near Olomouc. The simplest version is plain, with butter and a slice of bread, €4.30. Fried, in batter, €3.89, has a milder, less sharp aroma than the raw version.

Potato pancake and schnitzel: cheese as filling, not a side
Bramborák, a grated-potato pancake, comes with tvarůžky and coleslaw for €9.22. Olomoucký řízek goes further — a pork schnitzel stuffed with the same cheese and bacon, then breaded and fried, €17.42. Both dishes hold the cheese inside, not as a side dish.
Set lunch and house-brewed beer
At noon, restaurants in the old core offer a set menu, usually soup and a main course, for €5–7 — the cheapest hot meal in town. Alongside it, or in the evening, comes beer from a house microbrewery, €2.21 for half a litre of a light lager, different from what chain cafés pour.
Langoš for the street
Langoš is a Hungarian import that long ago became street food in Czechia too — fried dough, usually topped with garlic and cheese, about €4. It's quick and eaten on the move, between the two squares.
