Where to go: five more questions →

Zagreb Airport is about ten kilometres southeast of the centre, and getting into town means either a shuttle bus to the bus station (€9, 35–40 min) or a regular city bus, cheaper but slower. Fifteen daily tram lines cover the rest of the city, all on the same ticket as the bus.

From the airport to the centre

The Pleso Prijevoz shuttle runs straight to the main bus station in 35–40 min, fare €9. The cheaper option is the regular city bus 290: it runs to Kvaternikov trg on the east side of the centre, about every thirty minutes, and takes roughly 45 to 50 minutes because of the stops along the way — on the same fare (€0.93 (ZET bus 290, 60-min ticket)) tram 13 then covers Kvaternikov trg to the main railway station in about ten minutes.

Trams and city transport

The city is covered by fifteen daily tram lines and four night lines, all on the same ticket: €0.53 for 30 minutes, €0.93 for 60 minutes, €3.98 for a full day. By day a tram comes every five to ten minutes, by night about every forty — for a two-day stay with several rides a day, the day ticket pays for itself quickly.

On foot and by funicular through the centre

The Lower Town is flat and walkable; the one change in height is the climb to the Upper Town, solved by a short funicular from Tomićeva Street or a few minutes on the steps. A tram is only needed for the farther points, such as Mirogoj, Novi Zagreb or the foot of Medvednica.

To Novi Zagreb and Sljeme

Several tram lines cross the Sava into Novi Zagreb, where the Museum of Contemporary Art stands — the same ticket as the centre. For Sljeme at the top of Medvednica the direction is the opposite: tram to the northern edge of the city, then bus and cable car from there; the full route with timings is on the page about trips around the city.
