Two days in Split divide by what closes when: the first morning is the palace, from the cellars that open at 8:30 to the Golden Gate, then the sea at Bačvice; the second is Marjan and the Meštrović Gallery, shut on Mondays, then a swim at Kašjuni. So Monday is never day two.
The palace by noon, Bačvice after
The palace cellars, in from the Riva through the Bronze Gate, at opening time; the ticket is €10.
Up the steps from the cellars to the Peristyle, then the cathedral and the bell tower; tickets are sold at the cathedral's own desk.
The Split City Museum in the Gothic Papalić Palace, on the way to the Golden Gate; open Tuesday to Sunday, the ticket is €10.
The Golden Gate and Gregory of Nin. Meštrović's statue stood on the Peristyle in 1929; it was taken away in 1941 and put up here, outside the north gate, in 1954.
Lunch by the Pazar, the market east of the palace, then a rest.
Bačvice, the town beach east of the harbour — sand and shallow water.
Dinner in Varoš, the quarter west of the palace, of low stone houses and steps.

Marjan, Meštrović, Kašjuni
Through Varoš up Marjan to Vidilica, while it is still in shade.
Over the hill to the south side and the Meštrović Gallery on Šetalište Ivana Meštrovića: the villa the sculptor built for himself, now holding his work. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 8:00–18:00.
Kašjuni, the shingle beach below Marjan, further west, and a swim until late afternoon.
Back to the Riva as the sun sets behind Marjan.
