Mistakes everyone makes in Veliko Tarnovo
Veliko Tarnovo does not work as a day trip from Sofia, and unlike most cities on this site, Monday closes nothing here.

- Tsarevets
- Arbanasi
- Every site charges separately

In Veliko Tarnovo the usual mistakes are about timing: a Sofia day trip, waiting out a Monday closure, one ticket for all of Arbanasi, and dinner tied to the exact start of the Tsarevets show.
A day trip from Sofia
The bus takes about 3 h 20 each way; the round trip alone eats over six hours before you have even started up towards Tsarevets. The town holds 1–2 days, and that overnight stay is the difference between a trip and a visit.

Waiting out a Monday closure
In most cities on this site at least one sight shuts one day a week. Not in Veliko Tarnovo: Tsarevets, the Tsarevgrad Turnov Multimedia Visitor Centre and the Holy Forty Martyrs Church all open every day — no day-of-week planning needed here.
One ticket for all of Arbanasi
There is no combined ticket in Arbanasi: the Nativity Church, the Church of St Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and the Konstantsalieva House each charge separately, €7.67 per site apiece. Most visitors see one or two sites, not all three — plan around that instead of assuming one ticket covers the village.

Dinner tied to the Sound and Light show
The 'Tsarevgrad Turnov — Sound and Light' show has no fixed schedule: there are free weekend showings alongside separately paid ones, and dates shift. It is not worth pinning dinner or your ride home to the exact start time until it is confirmed in town, on the day.
