The best time to visit Graz

In Graz the date does not just change the temperature — it changes whether Eggenberg Palace is even open, and whether the day-trip ticket is even valid.

Where to go: five more questions →

Graz sits inland, far from any coast, which is why its winters run properly cold and its summers run properly warm. July is the warmest month, averaging 21.2°C. May brings the most rain, 16 days of it. May, June and September land in between, warm enough to cover the old town on foot, and Eggenberg Palace still keeps its full summer schedule through both.

Eggenberg only runs from late March to late October

Tue–Sun & holidays 10–18, 28 Mar–31 Oct 2026. Outside that window, out of season (Nov–Mar) — the palace is not visited then, whatever the weather outside.

The Landeszeughaus keeps shorter hours off-season

Tue–Sun & holidays 10–18 (Apr–Oct). In winter, November to January, the Styrian Armoury runs guided-only, weekends and holidays from 11 to 15. Anyone planning a visit in that stretch should count on a narrow window rather than the regular hours.

Day trips out of town run their own calendar

Riegersburg, Herberstein and Lurgrotte all use the same regional Freizeit-Ticket, €15 per person (Freizeit-Ticket Steiermark), but the ticket is valid only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. On a weekday a regular fare applies instead, at a price not confirmed in this round.

What has no season in Graz

The clock tower, the Landhaus and the Murinsel have no seasonal hours and no closing day — reachable every day of the year. The Kunsthaus also runs all year, closed only on Mondays; only Eggenberg and, in winter, the Landeszeughaus have a season.
