Graz splits over 2 days along the city's own line. The first day stays on foot in the old town and on the Schlossberg, the second crosses the Mur to the Kunsthaus and rides the tram out to Eggenberg Palace on the western edge of town. The palace runs seasonally (Tue–Sun & holidays 10–18, 28 Mar–31 Oct 2026), so a second day outside that window needs a different plan.
The old town and the Schlossberg
Arrival Graz airport (GRZ), then S1 train to the Hauptbahnhof into the centre — about 12 min for €3.20.
From the Hauptplatz up the Schlossberg: by funicular (the same city transport ticket) or by the lift through the rock (€2.60, city tickets do not cover it). The clock tower at the top is free to enter (free), a visit 15 min.
Back down into town, to the Landhaus: a renaissance courtyard with arcades, free to enter (free), 20 min.
The Landeszeughaus right next door, €13, 1 h — Tue–Sun & holidays 10–18 (Apr–Oct), closed Monday.
Lunch in the old town: a main course runs €19.70–20.60.
The afternoon along the Murinsel, the platform on the river itself, free to enter (free), 15 min.
The Landeszeughaus is closed on Mondays. If day one falls on one, the Landhaus and the Schlossberg still work; the armoury just moves to the next morning before the Kunsthaus.

The Kunsthaus and Eggenberg
Across the bridge to the Kunsthaus: €13, 1 h 30 — Tue–Sun & holidays 10–18, closed Monday.
The tram out to the western edge of town, towards Eggenberg Palace.
The compulsory tour through the Prunkräume: €20, 50 min, recommended — Tue–Sun & holidays 10–18, 28 Mar–31 Oct 2026, outside that out of season (Nov–Mar).
The rest of the afternoon in the palace park, before heading back into the centre.
The Kunsthaus, the Landeszeughaus and Eggenberg all belong to the same house, Universalmuseum Joanneum, which also sells a combined ticket covering several sites. It's worth checking on the spot before buying three separate ones.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Can Graz be done in a single day?
The old town and the Schlossberg, yes. The Kunsthaus and Eggenberg are left out, though; 2 days cover both without rushing.
What if I go in winter, when Eggenberg is closed?
out of season (Nov–Mar). Day two then keeps the Kunsthaus, alongside the old town, which has no season; the Landeszeughaus runs guided-only in winter, weekends and holidays.
Do I need a car for these two days?
No. The old town is on foot, and a tram runs out to Eggenberg.
