The best time to visit Sidi Bou Said
Neither Carthage nor the village has a seasonal closing day — the only thing that changes month to month is how early to start.
- Best
- year-round (go early in summer)
- Hottest
- July and August
- Coldest
- January, average daily mean around 12 °C

Sidi Bou Said and Carthage are visited year-round (go early in summer). The Carthage sites are open year-round, with no closed month, so the date only decides the temperature, not whether the gate is open.
Month by month
The whole site is outdoors — little shade outside the village itself. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
The figures are the average daily mean, not the daytime high. Spring and autumn, between 16 and 22 degrees, are the most comfortable for the climb up Byrsa and a long day outdoors; winter stays calm and dry compared with the rest of the coast, just colder for sitting on the cliff.

Start before the heat sets in
In July and August the Carthage site has not a single tree of shade, so after eleven the sun is felt on the stone of the baths and the open ground of Byrsa. The plan doesn't change order, it just moves the start earlier — an eight o'clock train instead of nine leaves enough time to finish the ruins before noon, when a shaded café is the goal anyway.
