Sidi Bou Said in 1 day
One train, one day. The ruins of Carthage while it's still cool, then two stops on, the village on the cliff as the light drops onto the bay.

The day starts on the TGM train from Tunis Marine station, 30–40 min to Carthage Hannibal. Carthage comes first, while the air is still cool, and Sidi Bou Said last, once the streets fall into shade and the cafés on the cliff catch the light off the sea.
From Carthage to the cliff and back
The TGM train from Tunis Marine station to Carthage Hannibal, 30–40 min, a ticket at €0.24 a ride.
On foot up to Byrsa: the grounds and the cathedral are walked on the €6 ticket; the museum on the hill stays museum closed (renovation, target end of 2026); grounds and cathedral open. You climb for the view of the gulf and of Tunis across the lagoon.
Downhill to the Antonine baths by the sea, same ticket — the one part of Carthage where the scale is actually felt.
The Punic harbours, two lakes with fishermen's boats, ten minutes on foot from the baths, same ticket.
With time to spare, the Tophet is a few steps further, no ticket needed.
The train, two stops on, to Sidi Bou Said, €0.24.
Lunch on the village's main street; bambalouni at the entrance is eaten hot, walking.
Dar el Annabi, an 18th-century house with courtyards and a rooftop, the one way behind the blue doors — half an hour.
The Ennejma Ezzahra palace, €2.97, open 1 Sep–30 Jun: 9–13 & 14–17; 1 Jul–31 Aug: 9–15:30; gardens on the cliff and the view from the terrace.
Café Sidi Chabaane, on terraces on the cliff, tea with pine nuts over the marina — you sit for an hour.
The train back to Tunis Marine, 30–40 min.
The Ennejma Ezzahra palace is closed Monday and holidays. In its place, a longer walk down the main street or a longer sit at the café on the cliff.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Do Carthage and Sidi Bou Said fit into one day?
Yes, on a single TGM ride, about seven and a half hours from the first train out to the last one back.
Can the order be reversed, the village first and Carthage after?
Not recommended. Carthage has no shade, so it's done while the morning is still cool; flipping the order would leave it for the afternoon heat with nowhere to escape the sun.
Does anything need booking ahead?
No. The Carthage ticket and the palace ticket are both bought on the spot.
