Where to go: five more questions →

Two days in Seville run in the order the opening hours set: the Alcázar at 9:30, because the cathedral does not open until 10:45, the Triana market before 14:30, when the stalls close, and the Setas in the evening, once the heat eases. Between two and seven in summer the plan is under a roof.

Day 1

The Alcázar, the cathedral, the Plaza de España

09:30

The Real Alcázar, first half-hour slot. You start here because the Alcázar opens at 9:30 and the cathedral, Monday to Saturday, not until 10:45.

12:00

The cathedral and the Giralda, across the Plaza del Triunfo. The ticket office shuts at 18:00, so the cathedral is not left until after the break.

14:30

Lunch in Santa Cruz, then rest until seven. In winter the same hours go to one of the indoor places on the hidden-gems page.

19:00

Through the María Luisa Park to the Plaza de España as the sun drops; the square sits on the park's edge.

21:30

Dinner on the Alameda de Hércules, north of the centre.

Day 2

Triana, the river, the Setas

09:30

The Triana market, just over the Isabel II bridge. The stalls trade Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 14:30; after that only the bars stay open.

11:30

Along the Guadalquivir to the Torre del Oro. From 1503 to 1717 the Casa de Contratación in Seville held the monopoly on trade with the Americas, and the ships sailed from this river; it was then moved to Cádiz.

14:00

Lunch, then shade or a museum until the evening.

20:30

The Setas (Metropol Parasol). Besides the viewpoint, the ticket covers a film and the Aurora light show; the viewpoint stays open until one in the morning.

22:30

Flamenco in a tablao or a peña. You choose the tablao by its show time and move the Setas around it, not the other way round.

When the plan has to move

  • Sunday. The cathedral opens only at 14:30 and the Triana stalls are shut. On a Sunday, Day 1 runs in a different order — the Alcázar at 9:30, the Plaza de España in the morning, the cathedral after lunch — and Triana waits for a weekday.
  • October to March. The Alcázar closes at 17:00, not 19:00, so it is not left for late afternoon.
  • Holidays. The Alcázar is closed on 1 and 6 January, Good Friday and 25 December — none of those can be Day 1.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

Do children pay at the Alcázar and the cathedral?

Children under 13 with an adult pay at neither. Over-65s and students get a reduced ticket at both.

What if I only have one day in Seville?

Day 1 of the plan, with the Setas in the evening instead of the Alameda. Triana and the river drop out.

How long do you spend at the Setas?

An hour to an hour and a half, by the Setas' own estimate — the viewpoint, the film and the light show.
