Where to go: five more questions →

The day starts with a train from Bratislava and follows the same order the Trenčín page describes: from the square past the tower and Katov dom to the castle, then down towards the river. Anyone who also wants Trenčianske Teplice needs to leave the afternoon on time — without it, the plan still fits into a day.

The whole day

The square, the tower, the castle and the river

09:00

Arrival from Bratislava, direct train (ZSSK / RegioJet), €6.06 (2nd class, standard fare). A walk from the station to the square.

09:15

Mierové námestie, free. Right next to it, inside Hotel Elizabeth, the Roman inscription is visible through the second-floor glass, free.

09:40

The City Tower, €2, open May–Sep 10:00–18:00; Feb–Apr & Oct–Nov 11:00–17:00.

10:05

The Piarist Church, a few steps further, free.

10:20

Katov dom, €10 (combined ticket with the castle) — the same ticket also covers the castle, so it isn't bought twice.

11:00

The climb to the castle. The self-guided circuit (Malý okruh) runs freely; a slot on the guided circuit (Veľký okruh), the only one that reaches the Well of Love, is no (self-guided); timed slots for the guided tour (groups up to 50, weekdays 11-12-14-15-16).

13:30

Lunch in the centre, set menu €8.90–13.50.

14:30

The Váh, the Ostrov river beach, free. The end of the loop for anyone without a bus in the plan.

15:15

For anyone leaving time for the afternoon: a bus to Trenčianske Teplice, a walk through the spa park and centre, free (walk through the spa park and centre).

17:00

Bus back, then the train towards Bratislava.

What to drop when you're running late

  • A late start? Katov dom is the first to go — the castle ticket still covers entry, you just skip the headsman's house.
  • No slot with a guide? The Well of Love waits for another visit; the Malý okruh still covers the whole castle.
  • No time for the afternoon? Trenčianske Teplice drops first; the Váh is closer and still fits a shorter day.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

Can Trenčín be done in a single day?

Yes, with the castle, the centre and the river. Trenčianske Teplice fits as an add-on if the day starts on time.

Does anything need booking ahead?

Only a slot on the guided castle circuit (Veľký okruh), if you want to see the Well of Love. The Malý okruh and Katov dom need no slot.

Do the castle and Katov dom need two tickets?

No, one ticket covers both, €10 (combined ticket with the castle).
