Best time to go: spring and early autumn

The temperature at the summit stays comfortable for the climb, and spring and autumn share nearly the same dryness as summer, without its heat on the bare rocky stretch.

Summer

July holds the highest temperatures of the year, and the last stretch of the trail to Šiljak has not a single tree for shade — an early start, before ten, remains the only way to avoid the worst of the heat.

Winter

The limestone near the summit freezes over and the trail can turn slippery and icy, while the chapel ruins offer no shelter at all from the wind — the climb isn't recommended for inexperienced hikers in this period.
