Where to stay in Novi Sad
In Novi Sad the area is chosen by how much you walk, not by the hotel photo: the centre is all on foot, Petrovaradin is quieter and full of studios, Liman is cheaper with a longer bus ride.

Novi Sad is a small city, so no area sits far away — the choice comes down to walking versus riding, and what is out the window. The centre around Trg Slobode is the most practical for a first stay, Petrovaradin across the bridge is quieter and full of studios, and Liman by the Štrand is cheaper, with a bus ride standing in for the walk.
The centre — Trg Slobode and Dunavska
Everything a first day in Novi Sad covers sits within about fifteen minutes' walk: Trg Slobode with the City Hall, Dunavska street, the Museum of Vojvodina, Zmaj Jovina. The fortress is also closest from here — across the Varadin Bridge, about twenty minutes on foot. For a one-day stay, this is the only area where nothing needs riding.

Petrovaradin — across the bridge, quieter
Podgrađe, the old quarter below the fortress, has narrow streets and an artists' colony that has worked there since 1952. There is less accommodation than in the centre, but it is the same twenty minutes on foot across the bridge, or the GSP bus from Petrovaradin station, which for arrivals by train is free. Evenings are quieter here than downtown — the main nightlife stays on the other side of the river.

Liman — cheaper, by the river
A residential district along the Danube, with parks and the Štrand nearby. A city bus, line 1 or 4, reaches the centre, while walking takes between thirty and forty minutes. The hostel bed price is the same as anywhere in the city, €12–15, but rooms and flats here are often cheaper than in the centre — the saving is paid for with a longer ride.

What to check before booking
- Distance from Trg Slobode on the map, not from a station. The city is small, but Petrovaradin and Liman are measured in walking or riding time, not as the crow flies.
- Whether a room is in Podgrađe itself or the newer part of Petrovaradin. The streets by the fortress and the part further from the river are not the same distance from the bridge.

Novi Sad has buses only — no metro and no tram, so every ride from Liman or Petrovaradin into the centre is counted in minutes waiting at the stop, not in changes.
