Where to stay in Poznań

The Stary Rynek puts everything within reach, Jeżyce is a quarter people live in rather than tour. The difference shows the moment evening falls.

Where to go: five more questions →

In Poznań you choose between the centre around the Stary Rynek and Jeżyce, the quarter to its west. In the Rynek everything is within reach — the goats, the museums, the restaurants. Jeżyce has no such landmark; you live there like a resident instead. A hostel bed is from €10.41, a three-star hotel room €26–36 per person.

The Stary Rynek

When you want everything within reach

Outside the door are coloured houses and cobbles, and the goats on the town hall are audible every noon without any planning. The 1956 museum, the Croissant Museum and the bridge to Ostrów Tumski are all within twenty minutes on foot. The price is the midday crowd and the noise at night, once the square fills up.

It suits short stays and anyone who wants to see everything on foot and not think about transport. It doesn't suit light sleepers or anyone after quiet past ten at night.

Jeżyce

A quarter people live in

Outside the door are streets around the Rynek Jeżycki market and cafés for residents, with fewer tourists than the centre. A tram takes you into the Rynek. It's quieter here at night than around the town hall — there's no single sight to sleep here for, just residents going about their day with no museum and no tourist queue in the way.

A longer stay and an interest in the city beyond the centre are reasons to sleep here. Anyone in town for one night and wanting everything on foot does better in the Rynek.

For one night

One night means the Stary Rynek — no tram ride after dinner, and the goats are right outside the moment you wake up.

  • Neither quarter needs a car. The centre around the Rynek is pedestrian, parking is scarce, and everything else is a walk or a tram ride away.
